Impact
of Micro enterprises on Youth
and Development
Presenter: Anywar Ricky Richard, Programme Director,
Friends of Orphans – Uganda.
Anywar Ricky Richard, a former
abducted child soldier in Uganda, will discuss the
importance of youth participation in program
development, especially in war-torn areas, as youth take
centre stage on both sides of warring parties, and form
the largest portion of abduction, rape, and torture
victims. Ricky will explore a case study on the “Let Me
Do It Myself ” Vocational Program that aims to empower,
rehabilitate, and reintegrate formerly abducted youth,
orphans, and child mothers who are heading vulnerable
households impacted by war and HIV/AIDS in Uganda .
Youth are trained in business, entrepreneurial, and
vocational skills and given access to capital to help
them launch income generating initiatives. For more

singer based in the US visited Friends of Orphans as a
force for peace and backed up our peace building and
conflict management programs in June 2006. He performed
and talking in churches, public places, and night
commuters centres, visiting Internally Displaced Persons
