Friends of Orphans Program Director Mr. Anywar Ricky Richard and Programme Manager Mr. Alem Oryem Francis went for a micro finances enterprises conference at Georges Washington University in the US.  Impact of Micro enterprises on Youth and Development Presenter: Anywar Ricky Richard, Programme Director, Friends of Orphans – Uganda.

Anywar Ricky Richard, a former abducted child soldier in Uganda, will discuss the importance of youth participation in program development, especially in war-torn areas, as youth take centre stage on both sides of warring parties, and form the largest portion of abduction, rape, and torture victims. Ricky will explore a case study on the “Let Me Do It Myself ” Vocational Program that aims to empower, rehabilitate, and reintegrate formerly abducted youth, orphans, and child mothers who are heading vulnerable households impacted by war and HIV/AIDS in Uganda . Youth are trained in business, entrepreneurial, and vocational skills and given access to capital to help them launch income generating initiatives.  Anthony Brown Baritone a spiritual singer based in the US visited Friends of Orphans as a force for peace and backed up our peace building and conflict management programs in June 2006.  Orphans against AIDS team visited Friends of Orphans in December 2005 to discuss sponsorship program for HIV/AIDS Orphans.
